Cabinet Flagged Irresponsible Politicians For Firm Action Chang
The cabinet has decided that firm action will be taken against “irresponsible politicians” inciting sentiments over the upside-down flag incident in Penang.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang revealed that yesterday’s cabinet meeting had specifically deliberated on the issue.
“The prime minister (Anwar Ibrahim) and other cabinet members were very concerned that this matter could dampen the people’s enthusiasm in celebrating Merdeka.
“So, it has been decided that firm action will be taken against these irresponsible politicians.
“As such, someone was already summoned by the police yesterday to give a statement, and is now being investigated under three laws. We shall wait and see whether anyone will eventually be charged in court,” the PKR vice-president said in his speech at an event in Klang today.
‘Everyone knows who I’m talking about’
In an apparent reference to Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, even though he was not named, Chang criticised “irresponsible politicians” for stoking sentiments during the Merdeka month by inflating the upside-down Jalur Gemilang incident.
“This is a highly irresponsible act! It’s not only irresponsible, it is an act of bullying. Everyone knows who I am talking about.
“I believe no one would deliberately hang the national flag upside down. And even if it did happen, we are a nation and society governed by the rule of law. If there is a problem, lodge a police report and let the authorities take action.
“You are not an enforcement agency, you cannot just bring a group of people to someone’s shop, disrupt their business, and bully them,” he said, according to a video uploaded on his social media page.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal SalehRecently, a hardware shop in Kepala Batas, Penang, flew the Jalur Gemilang upside-down. Two days ago, Akmal led a rally to “educate” the hardware store owner.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar instructed law enforcement agencies to take strong action against those who incite hatred in the country.
Last night, Akmal spent two hours at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters giving his statement.
He declared that in order to defend the national flag, he is prepared to face investigation under the Sedition Act. - Mkini
