This comes following a meeting between the two parties who both apologised for their actions. They also agreed to put the past behind them.
Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association’s Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar said the family of the teenager, Daniel Iskandar, 19, and committee members of Masjid Al-Islahiah had met to apologise to one another.
The meeting was attended by Selangor deputy mufti Miszairi Sitiris and Daniel’s lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.
Daniel’s grandfather, Rosli Sidek who was also present, told FMT that his grandson has apologised for his actions and promised never to do it again.
“I see change in him after the incident. I have forgiven him and I can see he is remorseful,” he said, adding Daniel was now undergoing rehabilitation at a welfare department facility.
It was previously reported that Daniel was sentenced to jail for 10 days and fined RM4,000 by the Selayang magistrates’ court for stealing mosque funds.
The prosecution said Daniel stole the money belonging to the mosque and hid it in the mortuary bathroom. When he was caught, mosque officials apparently washed him like a corpse, and recorded the incident on video, which was circulated on social media. - FMT
