Teacher Charged With Power Abuse Over Purchase Of School Supplies
Hazlina Kasah at the Butterworth courthouse today.BUTTERWORTH: A teacher has been charged with abuse of power at the sessions court here after she ordered physical education (PE) and other school supplies worth RM2,875 from her company.
Hazlina Kasah, 46, was charged with two counts of abuse of power for using her position as PE department head at SMK Pokok Sena in Kedah to purchase the supplies from her company, Hazwan Event Management.
She pleaded not guilty to the two charges under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
On the first count, Hazlina was charged with preparing a requisition order proposing the school buy from her company 10 reams of A4-sized paper, 30 whiteboard markers, a radio, a blood pressure monitor, three compasses, two weighing scales, a trampoline and 10 reams of coloured paper worth a total of RM2,353.66 on Oct 17, 2017.
On the second count, she is alleged to have submitted another requisition order to buy five footballs and a futsal ball from the same company worth a total of RM522.66 on Oct 19, 2017.
Hazlina’s passport impounded and require her to report to the MACC office once a month.
Hazlina, who was not represented, pleaded for a lower bail amount, saying she was currently a senior assistant in charge of student affairs at another school and had to care for five children aged five to 20. She also said her salary was RM8,000.
Judge Zulhazmi Abdullah set bail at RM8,000 in one surety and ordered her to surrender her passport and report in to the nearest MACC office every month.
