Tangkap Azam Baki Police Did Not Receive Any Rally Application
Police has not received any application to hold a rally in Dataran Merdeka, said Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya.
In a statement, he said police learned that certain quarters are planning a protest in the near future and warned that such action will be in violation of the current standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The whole Kuala Lumpur is still under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, which came into effect on Oct 18, 2021. On 16 Jan 2022, 226 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Kuala Lumpur with the virus' reproductivity rate at 1.08.
"Thus, police would like to remind the public to continue to abide by the plan's SOPs so that we can prevent ourselves and our family from being infected by Covid-19.
"Police has also received information regarding a plan by certain quarters to hold a rally, which clearly is in violation of the SOP. So far, police have yet to receive any applications to hold a gathering at Dataran Merdeka under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012," he said in a statement sent out to a media Whatsapp group this evening.
While Dellhan's statement did not specify what protest he was referring to, it came several days ahead of a rally to urge authorities to arrest MACC chief Azam Baki, which is planned for this Saturday (Jan 22).
When asked if he was referring to the planned Jan 22 protest, the police officer said "all gatherings included".
Several days ago, a poster calling for the rakyat to join the protest started going viral on social media.
The Identity of its organiser remains unclear, but the poster had been shared by many including some politicians. - Mkini
