Tajuddin Future Pm Material Must Debate Not Pasar Malam Ceramah
Academic Tajuddin Rasdi, who has hailed Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar as future prime ministerial contenders, asserted that a public debate between the two is essential to shape the nation’s political discourse.
ADSThe architecture professor emphasised the need to cultivate a culture of healthy, professional debate and to move away from the “outdated, one-way ‘pasar malam’ (night market) style” ceramah.
“For future prime minister candidates, mature debates should be a must,” he said, referring to the upcoming showdown between Rafizi and Nurul Izzah for the PKR deputy presidency.
Tajuddin suggested that the debate could consist of 10 questions.

Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar“Three questions on the party, three questions on the preparedness and strategy for the next general election and four questions on issues regarding the nation, such as race-religious conflict mitigation, social media and freedom of speech, rethinking the economy and education.
“This is a chance for PKR and the two candidates to set the tone for matured politics in the country and what our future might look like.
“It would also give a chance for the candidates to show off what are the strengths of PKR and the uniqueness of its leadership,” he added.
Rafizi raring to go, Nurul Izzah hesitates
Rafizi, the incumbent PKR deputy president, has agreed to debate Nurul Izzah, the daughter of Prime Minister and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
The economy minister suggested that a formal debate moderated by an independent organiser could help lower temperatures between the two competing factions.
“We are a reformist party, we bring a new political culture. Therefore, the way forward is - let’s debate,” said Rafizi, who is no stranger to public debates.
However, Nurul Izzah appeared to be non-committal to locking horns with Rafizi, indicating that she preferred to engage the delegates instead.
“We want to ease tensions because, for us, the priority is to engage with the delegates. Especially since we want to move forward,” she said. - Mkini
