Taib Mahmud S Brother Family Will Hold Raghad Fully Accountable And Responsible
Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi. - NSTP file picKUALA LUMPUR: The family of Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud claim they are in the dark over the whereabouts of the former Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.
His brother, Datuk Mohammad Tufail Mahmud, in a police report lodged at the Kuching central police station yesterday, also claimed the family will hold Taib's wife, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi, "fully accountable and responsible" if anything happened to the 87-year-old.
In the report sighted by the New Straits Times, Tufail claimed he was given a copy of a police report earlier lodged by a doctor at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre in Kuching, where Taib was warded.
The doctor, in his report, had claimed that Taib was "forcibly removed" from the hospital despite being advised that he needed to remain in the facility for treatment.
Tufail alleged that Taib was "removed and abducted" by Raghad from the hospital against medical advice without consulting the intensive care unit (ICU) medical staff, and without consulting and obtaining the approval of the family.
"None of my siblings nor any of my brother's real children know of his current whereabouts and the current condition of his health.
"In light of the above, my brother's medical condition and the doctor's police report, my family and I are gravely concerned about his health and safety," he claimed, adding that the report was lodged to urge police to urgently investigate the matter and to protect Taib.
The NST contacted the Kuching central police station, which confirmed the report.
Raghad, meanwhile, had on social media denied claims that she had taken her husband out of hospital against doctors' advice.
Earlier today, police confirmed that they have received a report on Taib being taken out of a private hospital, where he was being warded.
Sarawak police commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata, said the incident was being probed under Section 336 of the Penal Code, under negligence which could endanger the lives of others.
The police report, supposedly lodged by a doctor at the private hospital, went viral today.
London-based website Sarawak Report had claimed that Taib, who was warded in a private hospital in the state capital, was taken by force back to his residence in Demak Jaya in Kuching on Sunday night.
The report carried the headline 'Taib 'absconded' at midnight from hospital ICU against doctors orders by Raghad'.
The report also contained allegations made against Raghad, claiming that she had taken Taib out of hospital against doctor's orders.
Taib married Raghad in 2010, a year after the passing of his first wife, Puan Sri Hajjah Laila Taib.
He served three terms as Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri from March 1, 2014, until Jan 26 this year, when he was succeeded by Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Last year, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg said Taib was recuperating after being taken ill while he was on leave abroad and that his health was improving.
In November last year, Taib's sons had filed an injunction against their stepmother, Raghad, over the transfer of shares of a private company – Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad to her.
Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib had reportedly challenged the authenticity of his father's signatures on some documents involving transfer of shares from a company to Raghad. - NST
