Suspect In Botched Robbery Of Delivery Rider Nabbed Accomplice At Large
PETALING JAYA: One of the suspects who attempted to rob a food delivery rider here but ended up dropping his mobile phone at the scene of the crime has been arrested
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said officers from the district's Serious Crimes Unit arrested the 33-year-old suspect on Saturday (Aug 10)
"Our personnel raided an apartment on Jalan Kuang Bertam 9, Taman Kepong and arrested the suspect
"Investigations revealed that the suspect has a prior record for vehicle theft, theft and receiving stolen property, " he said when contacted on Sunday (Aug 11).
He added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime together with an accomplice, who is still at large.
"We seized a Yamaha motorcycle, a helmet and a motorcycle fork lock."We have identified the accomplice and are working on tracing his whereabouts, " ACP Mohd Zani said, adding that further investigations revealed the two suspects met while they were incarcerated at the Kajang Prison in 2010
ACP Mohd Zani said the suspect was being remanded for six days
It was reported earlier that police were tracing the whereabouts of the two armed robbers after one of them dropped a cellphone following the botched robbery at Phileo Damansara 2 here
The video of the robbery attempt on the food delivery rider went viral on social media
The one-minute 37-second video shows the delivery rider pulling into the entrance area with two men on another motorcycle following closely behind
The victim gets off his motorcycle and appears to talk to the two suspects before the pillion rider hits him on the back of the head and threatens to hit him again with an unidentified object
Moments later, the other suspect charges at the food delivery rider and pulls him away from his motorcycle, before attempting to ride off with his motorcycle
The victim then pounces on the suspect as he tries to ride away, and a struggle ensues between the three
The victim puts up a struggle, even when he is wrestled to the ground, forcing the suspects to flee the scene empty-handed.- Star
