(Facebook pic)KOTA KINABALU: The Sukau division of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) has dismissed claims that more than 2,000 of its members have quit the party, calling the allegation baseless, defamatory and a “political fantasy”
Its secretary, Emerson Dawang, said an internal check found that fewer than 10 members had left the party.
He also noted that several individuals cited in the allegation were in fact new members who were previously with Parti Warisan and only followed former Sukau PGRS women’s chief Dayang Norhayati Titing when she joined Barisan Nasional.
“Dayang Norhayati has long been inactive at the division level, and the branch she led is also inactive,” he said in a statement here today.
Emerson described her claim of a 2,000-member exodus as cheap political provocation aimed at portraying Sukau PGRS as being in crisis, which he said was far from the truth.
He said the division strongly rejected the allegation and took a serious view of attempts to tarnish the party’s image through the spread of false information.
He also said that PGRS Sukau remained stable and organised, and continued to grow with rising membership.
“The PGRS machinery in the Sukau state constituency is on standby and strengthening campaigns for the state election,” he added.
The Election Commission has set Nov 29 as polling day for the 17th Sabah state election, with early voting on Nov 25. - FMT
