Student Activist Claims Cop Asked Her To Follow Him Into Toilet Files Report
A female student activist questioned over a Palestinian solidarity gathering two months ago has lodged a report against a plain-clothes personnel accused of sexual harassment.
Muda secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi shared excerpts of the police report by the activist, who was summoned to the Wangsa Maju district police station yesterday.
ADS“A copy of the police report. People can evaluate for themselves. We call for swift action.
“Do not allow such incidents to repeat itself. Do not let them (police) think they can do as they please,” said Amir in a series of posts on X.
‘Uncomfortable and scared’
According to the report, the activist arrived at the station at 2.30pm and was “intimidated” by five or six police personnel who questioned her in an investigation room without the presence of her lawyer.
“I requested to go to the toilet, and a plain-clothes male investigation officer accompanied me. The officer walked into a small cubicle and asked me to follow him.
“There were only the two of us, no one else was around. He then said he wanted to teach me how to lock the door when it was just an ordinary latch,” the activist claimed, adding she had named the officer in her report.
“There were other female officers but the one who accompanied me is a man. He then got out of the cubicle.
“I felt uncomfortable and scared while in the toilet. I felt like my safety as a woman has been compromised,” she said.
The activist added she was not allowed to leave the police station for more than an hour after being questioned, purportedly because there was a solidarity gathering held outside.
Yesterday, Himpunan Advokasi Rakyat Malaysia (Haram) condemned the police for detaining and recording statements from eight individuals, including five students, who held a solidarity gathering outside the Wangsa Maju police district headquarters.
Haram stressed that the police’s actions are a severe violation of the principles of freedom of assembly and speech enshrined in the Federal Constitution. - Mkini
