Stop Harping On Liberal International Pkr Man Tells Opposition

(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher has told the opposition to stop harping on the Liberal International (LI) issue and come together to champion the plight of the Palestinians.
Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) said any “petty” argument involving the UK-based organisation – which recently backed Israel in its war against Hamas – should be halted.
“How many political points do you intend to score?
“Enough already. If I want to nitpick on it, I can bring up Tasek Gelugor’s involvement with LI in their 2015 forum,” he said when debating the 2024 budget at the committee stage. He was referring to Perikatan Nasional’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Syed Ibrahim questioned Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal’s (PN-Machang) continuous harping on the LI issue despite Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim explaining the matter.
He said it was “very clear” that Malaysia rejected ethnic cleansing and genocide.
Anwar, who is also the PKR president, had earlier today told the Dewan Rakyat that his party had officially severed ties with LI over the global organisation’s stand to support Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestinians in Gaza.
Social media users recently linked PKR to the group after LI listed the party as a member of the organisation on its official website.
On Friday, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil denied any links with LI and condemned the “deliberate attempts” by some quarters to associate it with the international organisation of liberal parties.
Fahmi revealed that Anwar had attended LI ceremonies or programmes on invitation, but not as a member.
LI has since removed PKR’s name and logo from its website. - FMT
