PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said personal attacks by those aligned to Rafizi Ramli had been hurtful.PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has called for an end to comparing her electoral performance with that of the party’s number two, Rafizi Ramli, claiming such comparisons will only divide and weaken the party
Nurul Izzah, who is challenging Rafizi for the deputy president’s post tomorrow, said the latter had contested in urban and Chinese-majority seats twice and won on both occasions.
She, on the other hand, contested four times in Malay-majority seats and won three.
“Many of Rafizi’s supporters mocked my defeat in GE15,” she said, referring to the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat.
“Let us not drag each other down, but acknowledge and appreciate each other’s strengths,” she said in a Facebook post.
Nurul Izzah failed to retain the seat after losing to Perikatan National’s Fawwaz Jan by 5,272 votes in the last nationwide polls.
She also said the personal attacks by those aligned to Rafizi had been hurtful.
Nurul Izzah, who is the daughter of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, said the party must move beyond internal rivalries and focus on unity to remain competitive in future elections.
“I truly believe bold and decisive action is needed so that we don’t lose more seats in the next election.”
She further warned that if the party does not go back to practising mutual respect and cooperation, PKR could risk further “damage”.
Nurul Izzah went on to say that PKR’s strength lies in its multiracial makeup and its allies in Pakatan Harapan.
“As a multiracial party, we rely on our components to build a strong support base to form a government.”
Nurul Izzah reaffirmed her commitment to grassroots engagement and added that “what has always driven me is not power or position, but the real impact of change that can benefit the people.” - FMT
