State Polls Field Me As A Last Resort Annuar Tells Pas
Former Umno leader Annuar Musa has urged his new party PAS to field him as an election candidate only as a last resort.
Annuar, a five-time lawmaker since 1986, said he joined PAS to pursue his goals of protecting Islam and Malays, and not public office.
"Even if I am not fielded, it's okay, as long as Umno doesn't win.
"If I am fielded as a candidate (by PAS), I will speak to the PAS leadership to know why I have been given this responsibility.
"If not, that opportunity should be given to someone else. After all, I'm still new in PAS," Annuar told Harian Metro last night.
As an Umno member, Annuar had taken on PAS candidates three times in elections, emerging victorious every time.
He was accepted into PAS during a Perikatan Nasional Rally in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on Saturday after he was expelled from Umno last December.
He appeared on stage again during the PN's rally in Kota Bharu last night at Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV.
Annuar told Harian Metro it was a difficult decision to join PAS after spending 50 years in Umno, but he was attracted to PAS because of the party's steadfast religious teachings.
"Previously, I tried not to be in any party. I tried for six months but I could not because politics is ingrained in me," he said.
Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said any PAS member can be a candidate for the upcoming state elections, including Annuar.
He said Annuar's entry into PAS has given the party a boost because of the latter's oratory skills.
"He has offered his services as a speaker in states where there will be elections," said Takiyuddin after the Kota Bharu rally, according to Berita Harian. - Mkini
