Spreads Joy To Over 3 400 Children In Malaysia

The biggest group of children at a single outing being simultaneously treated to watch the latest Walt Disney film ‘Dumbo’ at MBO Cinemas outlets nationwide
Over 3,400 children with special needs or from underprivileged families were in for a treat as one of Malaysia’s largest cinema chains, MBO Cinemas, and children-focused NGO, Kiwanis Malaysia, joined hands to organise a movie outing for the school holidays.
Returning for its third year, the ‘Kiwanis-MBO Mega Movie Treats 3.0’ took place simultaneously across all MBO Cinemas outlets nationwide with a special screening of Disney’s latest live-action film, ‘Dumbo’.
The grand launch of the event took place at MBO’s latest outlet in Atria Shopping Gallery and was officiated by Selangor State Assemblywoman for Kampung Tunku, YB Lim Yi Wei, who was joined by the General Manager of Sales and Marketing of MBO Cinemas, Ms Jamie Tiong, and Mr Ivan Oh, District Governor of Kiwanis Malaysia.
Other key attendees who were present at the launch included Ibu Kiwanis and wife to the late Tan Sri Khir Johari, Puan Sri Khir Johari; Timothy Chu, JCI Malaysia National Vice President; and En Kamarul Hisham Bin Hj Yeop Hashim, a member of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
District Governor Ivan Oh said, “The collaboration with MBO to bring this opportunity to children not only brings smiles and cheers for the day, but more importantly, it helps spark imagination and bring home lessons on positive values such as to accept differences or to strive until success is achieved.”
“The impactful message behind the classic tale of ‘Dumbo’; about an elephant calf born with unusually large pair of flappy ears who then discovers that being different is nothing to be ashamed of and instead can be put to good use, will hopefully resonate well with these special children,” added Ivan.
General Manager of Marketing and Sales of MBO Cinemas, Jamie Tiong, mentioned that the cinema chain is privileged to be able to leverage on its market positioning as one of the largest cinema chains in the country to add value to society through charity events of such a scale.
“Hosting the mega movie screening across our outlets in Peninsular and East Malaysia required a lot of coordination and planning from our end and we are proud to collaborate with Kiwanis Malaysia once again in making this event a great, rewarding success.”
“It was humbling to hear that for some of the children, this was the first time they visited a cinema. We hope they brought home some good memories from this experience,” added Jamie.
The 23 participating MBO outlets were from Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Ipoh, Skudai, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, Teluk Intan, Taiping, Kuantan, Kulim, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
The event was made successful with the participation of JCI Malaysia pursuant as a partner to Kiwanis Malaysia. Other partners such as Coca-Cola, Pizza Hut and Dutch Lady sponsored assorted food and beverages for all the children.
