Pakatan calls upon all MPs against Muhyiddin to support Anwar (The Star) – The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has called upon all MPs who are against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the prime ministerial candidate.
The council, made up by PKR president Anwar, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, called upon the MPs to immediately go to the negotiating table to unite and form a new majority in Parliament.
Reiterating its stance in supporting Anwar as the prime ministerial candidate, the council said they also disagreed on holding any general elections amid the heightened Covid-19 pandemic before the current 14th Parliament’s term ends on July 16, 2023.
“Therefore, the presidential council invites all MPs who are against Muhyiddin to unite and support Anwar as the prime ministerial candidate to form a new majority in Parliament.”

The anti-government or anti-Muhyiddin Yassin crowd is telling us that only 100 MPs still support the Prime Minister. This would mean 120 MPs do not support him.
If that is true, why not wait until 7th September 2021 to prove it via a vote of confidence in parliament? Why the hurry and why jump the gun ahead of the planned 7th September vote?
Anyway, is it true that only 100 MPs still support Muhyiddin Yassin? This figure of 100 MPs is based on 14 Umno MPs announcing they have withdrawn support from the government, 13 who have done so in writing. And it is on the assumption that all Pakatan Harapan MPs unanimously support the ouster of Muhyiddin in favour of Anwar Ibrahim.
Pakatan Harapan’s narrative is: 120 MPs want Anwar Ibrahim to replace Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister and only 100 MPs still support Muhyiddin as prime minister. Hence Muhyiddin must resign to make way for Anwar to take over.
Anwar Ibrahim: 120. Muhyiddin Yassin: 100. That is what Pakatan Harapan is saying.
And Anwar is Pakatan Harapan’s sole candidate for prime minister — not Najib Tun Razak, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Mohamad Hasan, or whatever.
Okay, so this means the 14 Umno MPs support the other 106 opposition MPs to nominate Anwar as the new prime minister or PM9. And amongst these 14 Umno MPs are Najib, Zahid and Ku Li. And this also means Mahathir and Mukhriz support Anwar as PM9 as well.
Even if it may be true that 120 MPs support the ouster of Muhyiddin, is it also true that these 120 MPs support Anwar as PM9? This is debatable because supporting the ouster of Muhyiddin is a separate issue to supporting Anwar to take over as PM9.
The current scenario is the number of MPs who support Anwar to take over as PM9 is less than the number of MPs who support the ouster of Muhyiddin. Hence Anwar’s numbers are lower than Muhyiddin’s numbers, whatever those numbers may be.

If not, even with a minority, Muhyiddin can stay on as prime minister because he would have a larger minority than everybody else. And a minority prime minister is still a legal prime minister.
