Sanusi said Prospek Suria, owned by So, had entered into a joint-venture with Kedah Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) for REE exploration in Bukit Enggang Forest, Sik. - NSTP/SYAHARIM ABIDINALOR STAR: The Chinese citizen allegedly involved in the theft of rare earth elements (REE) in Sik has been in country before 2020.
So Loi Fat therefore was in the country before Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor was appointed.
Sanusi said Prospek Suria, owned by So, had entered into a joint-venture with Kedah Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) for REE exploration in Bukit Enggang Forest, Sik.
He claimed the lawyer who represented So and his company was a good friend of Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
"I only realised that the Chinese man who had been mentioned by Saifuddin all this while is that So guy after seeing the photo released by him today.
"For your information, So had been in this country even before I was appointed the MB because he had already entered into a joint-venture with MBI.
"Hence, Saifuddin should check again his facts when he claims that I was responsible (for So entering the country)," Sanusi told reporters after campaigning for Kubang Rotan Perikatan Nasional candidate Datuk Salleh Saidin in Kuala Kedah here today.
Commenting further, Sanusi said So had visited him at the office with a lawyer, who is also a close friend of Saifuddin.
"I did not that his full name is So Loi Fat as I only recognised him as 'Mr So', the owner of Prospek Suria. He can't speak Malay or English, hence he relied on an interpreter to speak to me.
"He has been coming to the office even before I was appointed as the menteri besar, he had already entered a joint-venture with MBI back then. He came with lawyer and the lawyer is a close friend of Saifuddin, and if mention his name, Saifuddin might be shocked," he said.
He claimed that the lawyer who represented So was at one time worked together with Saifuddin in the Pakatan Rakyat Secretariat.
Sanusi added that So had once told him that he had spent RM30 million to lobby the project and from the total only RM5 million had receipts.
"Since he already had an agreement for sometimes (with MBI) and has spent a lot of money, so I told him to just carry on but I stressed it to him to follow all the regulations," he said.
Sanusi said he had mentioned 'Mr So' name in the state assembly that if it was true that Prospek Suria stole the REE minerals, only two persons that should be arrested there are So and and MBI CEO Muhammad Sobri Osman.
"However, it was not them who were involved in the REE theft, instead the one that was arrested for stealing was a Malaysian named Ho Chung Meng from Kuala Krai, Kelantan.
Earlier today, Saifuddin revealed a photo of Sanusi with a Chinese citizen wanted in connection with the rare earth elements (REE) mineral theft in Kedah.
Saifuddin was reported as saying Sanusi should explain why he had recently denied any knowledge of the man, identified as So Loi Fat, despite signing a letter to the then home minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to facilitate the man's application to enter the country in 2020. - NST
