Snatch Theft Victim From Bangsar Receives No Help From Passerby
WHEN a crime is committed, expect the authorities to be the last people to arrive at the scene.
Therefore, we can never discount the importance of the public in helping curb crime or to respond in an emergency situation.
However, a video post by Free Malaysia Today which was shared by a netizen on X showed the complete opposite.
In the video, a 78 year old lady was robbed in Bangsar which isn’t much of a news considering that snatch theft is a common occurrence.
I hope the victim is okay but as a Chinese myself, this is embarrassing and sad to watch. TWO passersby and not even one yg boleh tolong? Susah sangat ke nak bantu orang? Ni semua typical cina kiasi yg hanya pentingkan diri sendiri. “It’s non of my business, so better no need… https://t.co/onjMnEUa1A

She could be seen walking languidly along a stretch of terrace houses until a motorcyclist came along and snatched her handbag.
The force of his act sent her crashing to the ground where she laid there for quite awhile.
The video continued, showing several people passing by and not offering aid although she could be seen sitting alone on the road.
The netizen said he hoped the victim was okay, and that he was embarrassed to be a Chinese himself. Was it so difficult to help others?
He added that these were selfish Chinese people who were “kiasi” meaning afraid to die.
The post has since garnered a good deal of responses from netizens, with quite a number of them condemning the Chinese race for being self centred for not helping the lady.
Abugin.Ril said that the Chinese, regardless of how good they are, can be selfish. If it is not their problem, why should they help? Later they may be dragged into the problem too.
Abugin. Ril added that the Chinese will handpick those they want to help. They help those who benefit them.
Another netizen said the video reminded him of a video from a CCTV in China where a little boy was rammed in the middle of the road.
He survived but found it hard to stand up. The people in the surrounding only pretended like they knew nothing about it.
The netizen said her husband informed that the Chinese there are afraid to help as they may be required to pay the medical bill for the child later.
Netizen Hello there! said it was not a race problem but a problem of individual selfishness.
One netizen claimed the victim in the video suffered severe head injury.
We hope the lady recovers quickly from her head injury. However, the same cannot be said about the reputation of the society living there. – Focus Malaysia
