Smtrack Warns Of Legal Action Against Political Propaganda

Executive deputy chairman Azmi Osman said SMTrack Berhad specialised in RFID solutions, but was not involved in the RFID project at toll plazas.PETALING JAYA: SMTrack Berhad (SMTrack) has dismissed unfounded allegations about its involvement in the current radio frequency identification (RFID) project and vowed to defend its reputation.
“To date, SMTrack is not involved in the RFID project at toll plazas.
“Of course, as a company that specialises in RFID solutions, we believe in the value-added benefits this technology will bring to our community,” its executive deputy chairman, Azmi Osman, said in a statement today.
He also denied that the appointment of Saiful Nizam as SMTrack’s independent director was based on his political connections, stating that it was done based solely on his merits and experience.
Azmi Osman.“As an independent director, Datuk Saiful is not involved in the day-to-day business decisions and operations,” Azmi added.
Similarly, Azmi said SMTrack also did not involve businessman Lee Kim Yew in any lobbying for any of the company’s projects, despite his emergence as a substantial shareholder based on his own investment capacity.
He said such political propaganda was irresponsible and SMTrack would take appropriate action against the baseless accusations to protect the reputation of the company.
“These baseless accusations and lies by irresponsible parties would confuse the public, destroy the reputation of the listed entity, the integrity of Malaysia’s capital market and confuse the public on the benefits of RFID technology.
“Therefore, we plead with the government and enforcement agencies to take action against parties responsible for such lies.
“The group will not hesitate to take legal action against these baseless accusations to protect the integrity of our company,” Azmi added. - FMT
