Sharp Malaysia Donates Electrical Appliances To Support Rebuilding Of Schools Affected By Floods

Sharp Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Sharp Malaysia) recently donated RM383,827 worth of electronic appliances as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in collaboration with Ministry of Education (MOE) to rebuild schools that were affected by flood across several districts in Selangor and Pahang.

The donation handover ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon, Deputy Minister of Education and participated by Tuan Haji Paridon Bin Sahid, Timbalan Pengarah Sektor Pengintegrasian Teknologi Pendidikan, BSTP, Datin Nor Faridah Binti A. Bakar and Tuan Haji Ab Muhaimin bin Ab Hamid, Representatives of Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri (JPN) Selangor and Pahang, and Mr Ting Yang Chung, Managing Director of Sharp Malaysia.

Sharp Malaysia provided a total of 976 units of electrical appliances to 44 and 56 schools in Selangor and Pahang, respectively. The MOE has worked with JPN representations of both affected regions to shortlist the schools for this initiative.

With the recent flood disaster hits several parts of Malaysia, Sharp Malaysia strives to lend a helping hand by leveraging technological resources and knowhow, to ensure that no student gets left behind and improve lives across communities towards the reopening of schools. Sharp Malaysia sees the importance of education towards the younger generations and believes that providing access to technology and improving efficiency is the key in driving digitalisation of the 21st century, which shared the vision and goal with MOE.

YB Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon, Deputy Minister of Education said: “Our goal is to ensure learning continues for our students who are affected by the recent natural disaster as well as the pandemic. It is important that we work closely with the private sector especially companies like Sharp Malaysia to provide students with the necessary amenities that offer them a comfortable environment to focus on their studies.”

The recipients were 100 schools registered under MOE, which are government schools and government aided schools including sekolah bandar and sekolah luar bandar (Sekolah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan, and Sekolah Agama). Among the electrical appliances donated to the schools were ceiling fans, wall fans, stand fans, air-conditioners, kettles, refrigerators, and televisions. Sharp also offered the schools compassionate discounts up to 50 percent on their products.

The COVID-19 outbreak has deeply affected the education sector and has forced schools to make full use of variety of emerging online communication platforms to ensure the education process remains uninterrupted. With this new norm, technology and equipment have played important roles in adapting the future of education. As part of its CSR initiative, Sharp has provided five schools with its Smart Classroom Solution to enable online teaching and hybrid learning among teachers and students in the midst of the current situation of pandemic. This is to help Malaysia’s education system – to reach its full academic potential and build a bright future for younger generations.

The Sharp Smart Education Solution offers AQUOS TOUCH TV - an interactive touch screen for innovative teaching. Designed and manufactured in Malaysia, Sharp also has its expertise and service team here ready to provide aftersales services for the AQUOS TOUCH TV. In addition, Dynabook laptops have also provided with a complete video conferencing system including additional camera and microphone, to conduct live teaching while expanding the boundaries of a typical classroom.
