Sepanggar Mp Sponsors Pothole Repair Works In Constituency
Road repair works are ongoing in Sepanggar after Warisan lawmaker Mohd Azis Jamman moved to raise funds and sponsor a team of volunteers who since last night started to fill up potholes in his constituency.
Taking to Facebook, Azis denied his effort was a sign of looming elections, saying instead the authorities had been too slow in taking action to protect the safety of road users.
“Deadly accidents from damaged roads do not differentiate between parties, race or religion.
“Recently, I received dozens of complaints of damaged roads, and I also saw viral videos that showed vehicles ruined in Sepanggar,” said Azis, adding that he moved to purchase the necessary road repair equipment for use by a team of volunteers.
“Like it or not, as a leader I have to find a solution to this issue.
“This is not a movement to gain votes or public sympathy,” he said.
Among others, the team of volunteers has so far undertaken road repair works at Tanjung Lipat, Pekan Manggatal, and Taman Bukit Putramas.
Following that, local authorities and the Works Department have since mobilised repair work in Likas earlier today.
At the same time, Azis reminded the federal and state governments that they have a duty to channel required infrastructural funds and that he had made numerous requests for it in the Dewan Rakyat.
“They (the government) control all the allocations. None of it is channelled to me. But I understand that the state government might not have received sufficient funds from Putrajaya.
“Therefore, I took the initiative to act using my own funds and machinery,” he said.
