Selangor Sultan Unhappy Over Malay Disunity

(Malaysia Now) – Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today voiced unhappiness over the lack of unity within the Malay community, saying the quarrels among the people and political leaders could threaten the unity and harmony of all ethnicities as well as the country’s political stability.
In a statement, he said he had no desire to intervene in the politics and administration of the country.
“Nevertheless, I feel it my duty to provide advice and views to correct the situation, as well as to call for a stop to the splits among the Malays and Malay political leaders,” he said.
“This is to ensure that the interests of the Malay community are guarded without sidelining the rights and interest of the non-Malays in this country.”
Sultan Sharafuddin said the Malay political leaders should realise that the development and progress of the country depends on a stable administration.
“Suppose the Malay leaders fail to show good and responsible leadership,” he said. “The other races will lose respect for them and will not support their administration.”
He also urged the Malay political leaders to work with those from non-Malay political parties to ensure that the country’s development is prioritised for the well-being of all races.
“I invite all political leaders and people in this country to work for good and to practise a healthy culture in line with tolerance to achieve the aspirations of living in unity for the country’s prosperity.”
