Based on data from vaccinations centres in Selangor, more than 56% of the adult population are fully vaccinated, says Amirudin Shari.SHAH ALAM: Selangor is expected to make a transition to Phase Two of the national recovery plan (PPN) in September, menteri besar Amirudin Shari said today.
Amirudin said the projection was based on the latest rate of vaccination in Selangor.
He cited data from the National Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) and MySejahtera showing that 98% of the adult population have received their first dose of the vaccine.
According to Amirudin, many Selangor residents took their jabs at vaccination centres (PPV) outside Selangor, such as at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC).
“After updating through MySejahtera, we found that the total number of first dose recipients is 98%. The 80% rate which we announced yesterday was only based on those who went to vaccination centres in Selangor.
“Hence, we have exceeded 98% in dispensing the first dose and, therefore, Selangor is able to move to Phase Two at any time.
“We also found that admission to hospitals for critical cases have dropped significantly, especially at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang and Hospital Sungai Buloh,” he said in a virtual media conference here today.
For the second dose of vaccine, Amiruddin said the figure is being finalised with CITF.
However, he added, based on data from PPVs in Selangor, it has surpassed 56% and by the end of this month, Selangor is expected to reach the 60% mark for adults who are fully vaccinated.
“If we could speed up vaccinations further, we would attain herd immunity sooner.”
Amirudin also said a third vaccine jab, or booster, could be given out by early or middle of next year.
“I have held discussions with health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah for several days now and we see the likelihood that the third vaccine shot will be implemented next year and not this year.
“This is because we are still waiting for the signal from the World Health Organization (WHO),” he said.
He added that there were several considerations on the matter including the price of vaccines which is still high in other countries.
“It would also depend on a decision that needs to be made by the National Security Council (MKN).” - FMT
