Second Low Risk Quarantine And Treatment Centre Opens In Labuan Health Dg
Another Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre for low-risk cases has opened in Labuan today in order to cope with the increasing number of cases in the federal territory.
“Due to the increasing number of patients, the Health Department of the Federal Territory of Labuan (JKWP Labuan) has prepared a quarantine and treatment centre for low-risk cases at the Dewan Perbadanan Labuan,” Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in press statement today.
He said this means the total number of beds in quarantine and treatment centres for low-risk cases in Labuan stands at 317.
Noor Hisham added that the centre is fully operational today.
It will be fully staffed by healthcare workers from JKWP Labuan as well as an auxiliary team sent to help the territory’s health department.
The team will continue to be increased from time to time to ensure the work to contain the virus in Labuan is going smoothly, Noor Hisham said.
The Health DG also thanked those who were involved in the opening of the new centre, including the National Security Council (NSC), the police, Perbadanan Labuan, Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation Malaysia, Industrial Training Institute and others.
Meanwhile, for Covid-19 treatment at the Labuan Hospital, 20 of the 122 beds there have been reserved for patients in Categories Four and Five. These beds from the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The remaining 102 beds, including five other ICU beds, will continue to be used to treat non-Covid-19 cases, he said.
This means that the total bed capacity for Covid-19 patients in Labuan is now 337 beds.
Noor Hisham said Labuan had recorded a total of 26 cumulative cases since the beginning of the pandemic until Sept 26.
However, since Sept 27 up till Oct 29, Labuan has seen a significant spike in cases, with a total of 366 new Covid-19 cases, he said.
Labuan is currently under a conditional movement control order (MCO) which is set to last until Nov 13.
Several other areas in Labuan are also under enhanced MCO. - Mkini
