Sarawak Premier Is Equivalent To Dpm In Federal Protocol
Sarawak deputy premier Dr Sim Kui Hian issued a reminder yesterday that the Sarawak premier position is now equivalent in federal protocol to the deputy prime minister.
In a Facebook post, he said the protocol changes were instructed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim via the cabinet and through circulars issued from the chief secretary to the government (KSN) to all federal civil servants.
“No longer (is the Sarawak premier) seated after at best, behind at worst (of) any of federal minister in any of the federal official functions,” he said.
Sim said the changes reflect Sarawak’s status after its constitution was amended in February 2022, which also changed the title of the administration’s head from “Chief Minister of Sarawak” to “Premier of Sarawak”.
The Batu Kawah assemblyperson also shared several photographs from Sarawak’s Hari Raya open house last Sunday.
He pointed out that the venue was named “Dewan Undangan Sarawak” (Sarawak legislative assembly) instead of “Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak” (Sarawak state legislative assembly).
“It’s time for every Sarawakian to support these subtle but significant changes,” Sim said, adding that former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin had recognised Sarawak as a region rather than a state.
“Let’s be consistent and start from ourselves (Sarawakians) not to call Sarawak ‘negeri’ (state).
“So (the term is) the Sarawak government rather than Sarawak state government,” he added. - Mkini
