Sanusi Vows To Be Fair To All Gerakan Rep Can Join Govt

Freshly minted Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today said Gerakan's sole elected representative in the state, Kulim assemblyperson Wong Chia Zhen, can be appointed to join his new exco line-up.
Sanusi, who was sworn in as the 15th Kedah menteri besar, also said he has no problems serving the state's Malay majority and other ethnic minorities comprising 26 percent of its population.
"We have a non-Muslim Gerakan representative, and he can join the state government to represent non-Muslims, non-Malays.
"I have no problems serving non-Malays in Kedah. There is no discrimination," said Sanusi during a press conference at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Setar, attended by his wife, parents and older sister.
The Jeneri assemblyperson said this when asked about his commitment to ensuring a fair administration.
This follows the current line-up of 32 out of 33 PN elected representatives from Bersatu and PAS being Malay Muslims, while all three assemblypersons on the opposition bench are non-Muslims.
Sanusi also noted that a larger mandate given to PN compared to the last 14th general elections also comes with a higher pressure to perform.
"There are 33 state-assemblypersons from various backgrounds...I'm confident that every single one has the same commitment to give their best service," he said.
Exco positions
Meanwhile, Sanusi said Kedah PN parties will meet later today and nominate their candidates to fill ten state exco positions.
"The parties will propose the names of their representatives...the final exco line-up must be able to realise the Kedah 2035 Plan," he said.
"We must find the right expertise. Find the ones able to work with others, not just work with me, but the state government servants, state agencies and others," he said.
He said the process is expected to be done by this week for 11 excos, including himself.
On claims that Kedah as an opposition-led state under PN may be sidelined from federal developments or assistance, Sanusi reminded that it would be a sin to "punish" the people for exercising their democratic right.
"If they (Harapan-BN) held a grudge (against PN), I wouldn't know.
"Matters of the heart cannot be included in government affairs," said Sanusi.
Sanusi faced multiple defamation suits and a sedition charge for his speeches delivered while on the two weeks state election campaign trail, and he had repeatedly said that he would answer for all the cases in court. - Mkini
