Jeram Voters Hope Next Rep Can Unearth Pantai Remis S Potential

(selangor.travel pic)KUALA SELANGOR: Voters in the coastal constituency of Jeram are hoping their next assemblyman will be able to unearth the potential of Pantai Remis, the area’s main tourist attraction.
The beach, some 20km from Kuala Selangor, is known for its picturesque sunsets and seafood stalls, but locals said it needed an upgrade.
Roslan Yusof said the beach was not living up to its potential, citing the poor maintenance of facilities and a lack of activities.
“Banana boat rides and kite events can attract more people and give a boost to the local tourism industry,” he told FMT, adding that roads in the area should also be expanded to accommodate more vehicles.
He also said the river near Kampung Bagan Sungai Buloh also had tourism potential but it was dirty and polluted.
Roslan claimed factories along the river were to blame for the pollution and the locals’ complaints had been ignored.
Another local, Hanif Razak, also said Pantai Remis had potential but the embankment of the beach had made it difficult for people to access it.
“There should be a proper area for the kids to play on the beach,” he said.
A Puncak Alam resident, who only wanted to be known as Amirul, said he hoped the next Jeram assemblyman would push for the upgrading of smaller roads connecting the township to Pantai Remis.
He said the public facilities, especially the toilets, had been neglected and there was litter everywhere.
“We have a good product here but the maintenance is dismal,” he said, adding that the incoming assemblyman would need to think of ways to promote the constituency.
Amirul also said that infrastructure for the elderly and people with disabilities could be improved.
The battle for Jeram will see a straight fight between Kuala Selangor Umno chief Jahaya Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional’s Harrison Hassan. - FMT
