Sabah Prison Emco Extended Lockdown In 7 More Localities

(Penjara.gov pic)PETALING JAYA: A lockdown at the Kepayan prison in Kota Kinabalu has been extended because of continued Covid-19 transmission, as seven localities in Sabah were placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from July 13 to July 26.
Deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO applies to Kampung Tebongon in Putatan; Kampung Jempangah and Kampung Rancagan Klias in Beaufort; Jalan Pasir in Likas and Kampung Kuala Menggatal and Kuarters Tangki Air Biru in Telipok, Kota Kinabalu.
In Kelantan, Kampung Gong Jering, in the Bukit Jawa sub-district in Pasir Puteh, will be placed under EMCO for the same period.
The EMCO at the Kepayan prison was supposed to end today. It has been extended until July 15, as the health ministry has detected continued transmission.
The EMCO in Kampung Nahaba in Kota Belud, Sabah, was extended until July 26.
Ismail said the EMCO in two areas in Selangor’s Petaling district – Pangsapuri Westlite in Sungei Way and Mentari Court Apartment in Bandar Sunway – will conclude tomorrow.
In Sabah, the EMCO in Kampung Penimbawan in Tuaran and Kampung Linau in Kota Belud will also end tomorrow. This also applies to the Ladang Mukah 1 workers quarters in Mukah, Sarawak.
547 arrested for MCO offences
Ismail also said that 547 people were arrested for various MCO-related offences, adding 533 of them were compounded while the rest were remanded.
The offences include failure to maintain physical distance (97), failing to comply with movement control measures (82), failure to register personal details prior to entering premises (67), failure to wear face masks (56), exceeding the car passenger limit (44) and others.
The authorities also detained 51 undocumented migrants and seized three vehicles as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign yesterday. - FMT
