Sabah Harapan Leaders Want Federal Bipartisanship Emulated At State Level

The Sabah Pakatan Harapan leadership council has called for the bipartisanship spirit felt at the federal level to be extended to the state government.
The council expressed the view that the Sabah government had yet to devise strategies in order to redevelop the state’s economy.
“It is no longer a matter of politics, but the general interest of the Sabahan people.
"All available energy and resources should be used to treat, recover and redevelop the effects of the crisis caused by this Covid-19 pandemic.
“Sabah Harapan, as a policy-oriented coalition, is of the opinion that the dual-partisan spirit - as started at the federal government level - can be extended at the state government level so that the focus can be consolidated towards the recovery and redevelopment of Sabah at this time,” said the coalition in a statement today. 
It added that this included the reform agenda touted by the federal government on matters such as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The statement was jointly signed by Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew (above), Sabah DAP chairperson Poon Ming Fung, Sabah Amanah chairperson Lahirul Latigu, and Upko president Madius Tangau.
Additionally, the council said that the government cannot rely solely on vaccination programmes on the road to recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.


“A public health rehabilitation strategy, followed by economic and infrastructure redevelopment in Sabah should be formulated and implemented immediately.
“The state government should play a more pragmatic and transparent role on rehabilitation and redevelopment programmes as the Covid-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented crisis and it is now in the public interest of Sabahans to demand the best services from the government,” it added. 
MOU with GRS
In a separate statement, Liew said that a preliminary draft of the proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state government was almost complete.
She claimed that discussions on the proposed MOU began about a month ago, with all component parties actively involved in these talks.
"All component parties had been actively involved in the discussion under the big umbrella of the Sabah Agenda Reform which emphasises the stability of the government, economic recovery and control of Covid-19 in Sabah," explained Liew. - Mkini
