Malacca Umno Blames Dap Harapan For State Govt S Fall

Malacca Umno state liaison chief Ab Rauf Yusoh has taken aim at the DAP for backing the fall of the Barisan Nasional (BN) state government and supposedly foiling former Umno Sungai Udang assemblyperson Idris Harun’s attempt to reclaim the chief minister’s post.
Speaking at the launch of Barisan Nasional’s election machinery, Rauf said Idris was played out by the DAP after his success to topple the Malacca state government.
“Sungai Udang (Idris) has been played out by the DAP.
“He toppled the government but failed to come back as chief minister,” said Rauf (above), the former Malacca state assembly speaker.
Rauf took further shots at Idris, labelling the latter as “greedy for power” but that it wasn’t God’s will for him to return.
He said while the Umno Malacca government was brought down by their own members, the incident could have been avoided if the move was not supported by Pakatan Harapan.
“Until today Umno was brought down by Umno, but Umno would not have fallen if there was no support from Harapan, which was interested in bringing down the government,” he said.
He further branded Amanah Malacca chief Adly Zahari, also a former chief minister, as being the connection between Idris and others involved, including PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
As the former speaker, Rauf said he sensed something amiss during the last state assembly sitting when the opposition bench had unanimously supported all motions tabled by the government, including one on strengthening teachings of Ahlil Sunnah Waljamaah.
“If it was only assemblypersons from Amanah, I would understand, but even from the DAP there were no protests,” he added.
‘Learn to dance in the rain’
The official launch of BN’s Malacca elections machinery was moved to its headquarters at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur after the Health Ministry banned all election-related events in Malacca to prevent a spike in Covid-19 infections.
The launch was officiated by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, attended by several hundred BN supporters along with top component party leaders.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, as BN’s election director, urged all members to adapt to the new restrictions by using a more targeted campaign approach.
“Don’t blame the weather. Learn to dance in the rain,” he said.
Zahid reaffirmed Umno’s stand of no cooperation with Bersatu in the Malacca elections, hinting at possible multi-cornered fights for the 28 state seats.
The Umno Supreme Council is expected to meet tomorrow and come up with a final decision on whether they would face the Nov 20 polls alone or with other parties. - Mkini
