Rubbish Pn Mp Disputes Nga S Claim Of 20 Tonnes Of Trash After Turun Rally
PARLIAMENT | A Perikatan Nasional lawmaker has dismissed Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s claim that some 20 tonnes of rubbish were left behind following Saturday’s “Turun Anwar” rally.
Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) questioned the accuracy of the figure during Question Time, saying it did not align with the police’s estimate of 18,000 attendees at the PAS-led protest.
“(The minister) said there were 20 tonnes, or 20,000kg of rubbish.
“If each person had only one mineral water bottle, to reach 20,000kg, there must have been 400,000 people,” Awang (above) said.
ADSWhile police put the crowd size at 18,000, rally organisers claimed there were 500,000 participants. A Malaysiakini estimate based on on-the-ground observations placed the figure closer to 25,000.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor MingNga, in response, said the 20-tonne figure came from the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), which also reported the need for additional manpower to clean up after the rally.
“That figure did not come from me; it came from SWCorp. Hundreds of workers were mobilised for the clean-up.
“I do not deny that some PAS volunteer members stayed back to help, and I thank them.
“But the 20 tonnes of rubbish left at Sogo, Jalan Petaling, and Dataran Merdeka cannot be denied,” he stressed.
Awang’s repeated accusations that Nga was lying led to a brief commotion in the Dewan Rakyat, as other PAS MPs voiced their support. - FMT
