Rotting Shah Alam Stadium Must Be Saved State Assembly Told

(Facebook pic)SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam Stadium is in “heartbreaking” condition, and the state government needs to immediately upgrade it, says Selangor opposition leader Rizam Ismail (BN-Sungai Air Tawar).
Speaking at the Selangor state assembly sitting, Rizam said the stadium has become an eyesore with its rotting roof and other structures.
“We can clearly see the stadium’s weak structure when we pass the stadium. That’s really heartbreaking for the people of Selangor,” he said.
He also asked Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari to clear the air on rumours that there are plans to demolish the stadium to build a smaller one – with the remaining land set aside for housing developers.
“I want this question to be answered. If it’s true, then do not continue (with the plan),” said Rizam. “I understand that the cost of repairing the stadium’s roof and field, as well as other additions without having to demolish the stadium, will not even be RM50 million.”
Apart from calling for repairs to be expedited, Rizam also suggested that a mini museum be built to highlight the success of the Selangor football team during its heyday.
Amirudin had previously said that the stadium would be refurbished once approval was obtained from Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated.
He said the project was currently in the bidding phase. “If all goes well, the upgrade will be carried out as soon as possible,” said Amirudin.
“The state government has set a condition that the stadium must be repaired first, before other facilities around it are repaired,” he said after officiating the Selangor FC Hall of Fame Gallery at the Shah Alam Stadium on Oct 24. - FMT
