Ros Rejects Parti Sains Registration Attempt No Reason Given
Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (Sains) has been informed by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) that its application to register as a political party has been denied.
"The official email, dated Jan 21, 2022, said that the application has been rejected, but the department did not provide any reason whatsoever as to why the application was denied," said the party’s communications and media office in a statement today.
Sains applied for registration more than seven months ago on June 9, 2021, it said, adding that it strongly denounced the RoS’ decision to reject the application without providing any reason.
“Sains will file an appeal with RoS against this decision and we hope that the decision on the appeal would be made and relayed to us as soon as possible,” said the group's secretary-general Afiq Harraz.
Afiq also added that the Central Executive Body of the party has taken a decision to exhaust all legal remedies to defend, as Malaysians, their right to association as enshrined in Article 10(1)(c) of the Federal Constitution should the decision of the appeal be also unjustly rejected.
The party describes itself as Malaysia’s first science-based political party and was established on the internet in 2021.
Most recently, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) party led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman experienced a lengthy battle for registration which ended last month when the High Court ordered Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin and the RoS to register the party within 14 days.
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) also endured a decade-long battle to be legally registered, finally getting approval in 2008. - Mkini
