Rohani Dropped Nancy Standing In Santubong For Gps
It was reported that former Batang Lupar MP Rohani Abdul Karim (left) was seeking to defend her seat for an eighth term, while Nancy Shukri was set to take over Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s Santubong seat.PETALING JAYA: Rohani Abdul Karim will not defend the Batang Lupar seat in the 15th general election (GE15), with Shafizan Kepli set to contest the constituency for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg, who is the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, also announced that former Batang Sadong MP Nancy Shukri will contest the Santubong seat.
The Santubong seat was previously held by four-term MP Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who has decided to step down, and was not included in GPS’ list of 31 candidates for Sarawak in GE15.
GPS won 19 of the 31 seats in Sarawak in GE14, with DAP taking six seats and PKR claiming four. The other two seats were won by independents Larry Sng (Julau) and Jugah Muyang (Lubok Antu).

Among the big names who will be defending their seats are works minister Fadillah Yusof (Petra Jaya), domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi (Kapit) and Progressive Democratic Party president Tiong King Sing (Bintulu). Tiong is also the prime minister’s special envoy to China.
Deputy plantation industries and commodities minister Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo) and deputy transport minister Henry Sum Agong (Lawas) will also be defending their seats.
Lo Khere Chiang and Tay Tze Kok will be fielded in Stampin and Bandar Kuching, respectively. Lo will be up against Sarawak Pakatan Harapan chairman Chong Chieng Jen, and Tay will face DAP Youth chief Dr Kelvin Yii.
In his speech, Abang Johari, who is also the Sarawak chief minister, paid tribute to law minister Wan Junaidi for his role in pushing through amendments to the Federal Constitution to ensure they are in line with the provisions of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The bill gives recognition to the demands and special status of Sabah and Sarawak upon joining Malaysia, in line with the MA63 provisions, thereby strengthening their position in the federation.
“That is the success of a GPS minister,” he said.
“I would like to thank all our MPs who had served in the previous government, especially those who have given way to the (GE15) candidates.”
Abang Johari said GPS will release its manifesto on Sunday, adding that the coalition is determined to fulfil its promises if it is returned to power after the Nov 19 polls.
“Previously, our opponents (PH) made many promises but they were not fulfilled during their 22 months (in power),” he said.
“We are very firm on our manifesto.”
