Rm150 Aid For All Students Not Accurate Criticises Kuala Krai Mp
BUDGET 2023 | A PAS MP has deemed the government’s move to give RM150 assistance to all students, regardless of family background, as being “not very accurate”.
Kuala Krai MP Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman said the allocation set aside for the initiative should be channelled to the needy.
“However, the provision of RM150 early schooling assistance to all students is not accurate.
“Average social assistance like this is not a prudent move.
“For the B40 and M40 groups, this aid will definitely help them a lot in facing expenses when schools reopen, but for the more able groups, it will not have any effect on them,” he said today.
The MP also welcomed the government’s allocation to Sabah and Sarawak but pointed out the same did not apply to Kelantan.
“The large allocation to Sabah and Sarawak is a timely move. Most of it is for infrastructure.
“I still hope for a bigger figure for Kelantan for the balance of regional development which is also a focus in the budget this time,” he said.
Starting next year, families will receive RM150 under the Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) scheme irrespective of household income, up from the previous RM100.
There will be no cap on the number of children per family to qualify for this scheme. Payments will be made in January.
A total of RM825 million has been allocated for the BAP, which is an increase from last year’s allocation of RM450 million. - Mkini
