Rep Questions Accuracy Of Official Covid 19 Death Tally In Klang

An elected representative has questioned the accuracy of the official Covid-19 death tally in the Klang district, as the number of Covid-19-related Muslim burials in the same period and area was almost double the reported figures.
Port Klang assemblyperson Azmizam Zaman Huri said the official figures from the Selangor Health Department for Klang showed there were 266 Covid-19 deaths between July 16 and Aug 10.
However, combined data from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and an NGO appointed by Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital to handle Muslim burials showed there were 448 Muslim burials alone in the district during the same period.
Azmizam noted that he was only comparing data from July 16 up to Aug 10 as that is the data available from Jais.
“I am asking this because in Port Klang, every day there are ambulances and hearses carrying dead bodies, and there are also those who died at home.
“So what were these deaths recorded as? Because there is a huge discrepancy in the numbers, and surely there were non-Muslim deaths as well as foreign citizens. Were these recorded?
“But when the (official) records came out, there were only 183 deaths in the month of July in the Klang district. So the question arises, can I trust this data or not? Or is there an unclear explanation in the reporting of this data?” he said in his speech during the Selangor state assembly today.

As such, Azmizam urged the Selangor Health Department to review this data and clearly identify the type of deaths recognised as Covid-19 fatalities.
For the record, Covid-19 deaths may take up to a week before it is officially reported in the Health Ministry’s death tally. - Mkini
