Rashid Just Trying To Legitimise His Actions Bersatu Man Says
Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari had said he would remain committed to Bersatu despite his backing of Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Selangor Bersatu has rubbished a claim by an assemblyman who declared support for the administration of menteri besar Amirudin Shari that many of the party’s grassroots had secretly backed his decision.
Deputy Selangor Bersatu chief Rafiq Abdullah also said that Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari’s claim was an attempt to “legitimise” his move.
Speaking to FMT, he said this was evident in the fact that the grassroots in the Selat Klang division had remained steadfast behind Bersatu.
“This is a desperate claim (by Rashid). Bersatu members in Selat Klang and Kapar remain loyal to the party,” he said.
He also challenged Rashid to vacate his seat in order to prove his claim.
Rashid recently said that many Bersatu members in Selat Klang had secretly backed his decision to support Amirudin.
He also said that some 2,000 grassroots would vote for him if an election was held.
In March, Rashid said he was prompted to back Amirudin after going through the Selangor sultan’s speech when opening the state assembly session, where the Ruler had praised the state administration for being on the right track.
He said he remained committed to Bersatu but believed that his backing of the state government would benefit the people in his constituency.
Six MPs from Bersatu had similarly declared support for the administration of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
They are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
They, too, said they would remain loyal to the party despite their show of support for the government which they attributed to the need for development allocations to serve their constituencies.
Bersatu subsequently said that the seven had ceased to be members after failing to respond to a notice to confirm their loyalty. - FMT
