Pn Leaders Back Rafizi S Rci Call But Raise Doubts
Perikatan Nasional MPs have expressed cautious support for former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s call to establish a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into allegations surrounding judicial appointments.
PAS deputy president and Kubang Kerian MP Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said his party supports the proposal in principle but still has reservations.
“I support the suggestion, but I remain doubtful.
“Would the RCI be transparent since it is the prime minister who would be the one who appoints its members?
ADS“This would also take a long time to complete, whereas this issue needs (to be addressed) quickly,” Tuan Ibrahim (above) told Malaysiakini.
He further cautioned that the inquiry could end up being merely academic if its findings failed to change the situation.
Additionally, he pointed out that Attorney-General’s Chambers had already stated an RCI is unwarranted, and the law minister had also issued a similar statement.

Meanwhile, Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin from Bersatu said she personally supports Rafizi’s call but has yet to consult other PN MPs.
“I personally support it. But I haven’t checked with my fellow PN MPs yet,” she said briefly when contacted.
Both of them, and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, have confirmed to Malaysiakini that they have received the letter from Rafizi this morning.
Rallying all lawmakers
In the letter, Rafizi urged all parliamentarians to support three demands:
The establishment of a royal commission of inquiry to investigate the allegations;
For the parliamentary special select committee for human rights, elections, and institutional reforms to probe the allegations, including summoning Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to give a statement; and
Filling key judicial vacancies based on the Judicial Appointments Commission’s (JAC) prior recommendations.
