Rafizi Reveals Failed Plan To Install Zafrul In Pkr And Nurul Izzah As Selangor Mb

FORMER PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli disclosed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had planned in April 2024 to bring Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz into PKR.
Anwar was to announce this at the party congress, and engineer two by-elections to make Zafrul an MP and Nurul Izzah Anwar a state assemblywoman.
The ultimate goal, Rafizi claimed, was for Zafrul to be elected and to help Nurul Izzah replace Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Selangor mentri besar.
The scheme collapsed after the plan leaked prematurely and UMNO strongly objected to PKR poaching its member.
“However, the news had gotten out before the announcement. Some people claimed their own team was behind the leak,” he said.
“So when UMNO learned about this, they were upset. Because there was a strong objection from UMNO, the announcement was cancelled,” said the Pandan MP on his latest podcast.
Rafizi alleged Anwar pushed hard for Zafrul’s entry without initially informing party leadership and became upset when others disagreed.
“He was the one who was relentlessly defending the plan to bring Zafrul into PKR. He did not even inform us, as we only learned about it when UMNO objected,” Rafizi added.
According to Rafizi, it was never discussed in meetings. And when they had a differing view, he claimed Anwar was upset.
Although Zafrul has since joined PKR, Rafizi said the narrow remaining window before the Selangor state assembly term ends in 2028 makes the original succession plan unfeasible.
The Selangor state assembly is not required to fill a casual vacancy if it occurs within two years of its expiry in Sept 2028, Rafizi said. — Focus Malaysia
