Rafizi Macc Probed Pkr Candidates Who Ran Against Izzah S Camp

Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has dropped another damning allegation against the party.
In his latest podcast, the Pandan MP claimed some PKR members suddenly found themselves in MACC’s crosshairs after falling out of favour with certain party leaders.
He claimed the same also happened to PKR members who contested in this year’s party election against those aligned with Nurul Izzah Anwar.
“I want to give an example related to PKR, something which has never been said before.
“During the PKR election in May, there were many PKR candidates who got arrested by MACC. And these mostly involved those who contested against Nurul Izzah’s candidates.
“We never spoke about this before, but now I no longer care, so I will just say it,” he said.
As an example, Rafizi cited an alleged incident during the party polls where a candidate aligned with him was detained and investigated by MACC for purchasing an auctioned house in cash.
He did not identify the candidate except describing the person as someone who had never lost in the party election in Selangor.
Alleged raid tactics draw concern
According to Rafizi, the person had his house surrounded by MACC officers, leaving his wife and children terrified.
“So I called the prime minister and asked him what was happening. Why, during this party election period, do we see people getting arrested by the MACC?
“He told me, ‘Oh, this person has a case, he bought a house using cash’. So I said it’s okay for MACC to investigate, but why the need to surround his house and terrify his wife and kids, humiliating him?
“He is also not the type of person who would run away (from investigation). So I asked (Anwar) to help inform MACC that it was not necessary, and he (the candidate) would present himself to MACC. And the PM said okay.”
Rafizi said he later called the candidate and questioned the man about his recent house purchase, and found out that he had to pay cash as the house was auctioned for only RM30,000, and he could not get a loan.
“He went to the MACC with a lawyer, and according to them, what happened to him was not really about the case but actually connected to the PKR election,” he added.
Malaysiakini has reached out to the PKR headquarters, the prime minister’s office, Nurul Izzah’s team, and the MACC for their responses to Rafizi’s allegation.
The former economy minister said this was why he and some PKR members had been cynical about the government’s relationship with MACC. - Mkini
