Putrajaya To Summon Massimo Over Bread Price Hike

The government plans to call in the makers of Massimo bread products for raising its prices.
Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Rosol Wahid said he wants an explanation from the breadmaker and what alternatives it can offer.
Both Massimo and Gardenia, two leading breadmakers in the market, have recently raised their prices.
"We will call the producer of Massimo bread. The ministry wants to know what is their reason for raising prices and what alternatives they can offer.
"This is to help reduce the people's burden, particularly when they are impacted by Covid-19 and the floods," Rosol was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
He said his ministry had also met with Gardenia after it raised the prices of its products and the firm promised to create a new product that will be sold at the old price.
The deputy minister said Massimo could consider a similar option.
Rosol said Gardenia had explained that prices had to be raised due to an increase in raw material prices.

"The same can be done by Massimo so that the people can have a choice," he said.
Rosol said the price of white bread of regulated by his ministry and the government must be notified of any price increase.
"For other types of bread, they are not subjected to price control," he said.
Massimo increased the price of its 400gm White Sandwich Bread from RM2.38 to RM2.80 while the 600gm version was increased from RM3.35 to RM4. The increase took effect on Jan 1.
Gardenia increased its prices in December last year.
The price of its Gardenia Original Classic 400gm was increased from RM2.50 to RM2.80 while its jumbo 600gm version was increased from RM3.55 to RM4. - Mkini
