Fadlun reading the minister’s speech during the launch of the Putrajaya Carnival 2025 at Precinct 18. THE long-abandoned monorail bridge in Putrajaya is being refurbished and will open to the public as a pedestrian and cycling link in the coming months.
Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud said the structure, which spans about 200m across Putrajaya Lake between Precinct 4 and Precinct 8, remained unused after the city’s monorail project was suspended.
“The monorail is not in the current development plan, so we proposed to the government that the bridge be repurposed for public use,” he said.
He was speaking at the launch of the Putrajaya Carnival 2025 in Precinct 18.
Fadlun said work is ongoing and about 50% complete, with efforts focused on connecting the bridge with new ramps and aesthetic improvements.

He said the refurbished bridge is expected to be ready by December or January.
“It will be for pedestrians and cyclists only. Cars will not be allowed because it was originally designed for the monorail,” he said.
He added that the structure’s load capacity has been taken into account.
Safety features and lighting will also be installed to enhance the experience for users, especially at night.
“It will be somewhat like the Saloma Link in Kuala Lumpur but with Putrajaya’s own character,” Fadlun said.

According to him, the Federal Government allocated RM15mil for the project, with most of the cost going towards meeting safety standards for recreational use.
Reading a speech on behalf of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Zaleha Mustafa, Fadlun said the refurbished bridge would be launched in January 2026.
The project is part of broader efforts to create new attractions in Putrajaya.
“The adaptive reuse of the monorail bridge will give it new value and make it a tourism landmark where visitors can enjoy the Putrajaya lakefront,” the speech read.
The monorail project in Putrajaya was suspended in 2004, leaving incomplete infrastructure including tunnels, pylons and bridges.
It was previously reported that the Auditor-General’s Report 2021 estimated losses of over RM797mil from the stalled project, which was planned as a 19.2km system with two lines and multiple stations.
