Netizens Slam Risky Anglers Caught In Heavy Rain Under Second Penang Bridge

THE coming monsoon season is not welcome, especially in Peninsular Malaysia where flood is a frequent occurrence. For many people, the arrival of the rainy season means one thing only, and that is staying indoors as much as possible.

But for some people, the dangers of flash floods or powerful waves isn’t a deterrent for them to go fishing.
And likely, they would end up like a group of fishing buddies in this video, who got stranded under the second Penang Bridge when the rain hit them hard on their location.

Netizens in the comment section were quick to point out their lack of responsibility especially those who have a family at home.
“Smart,” said a sarcastic @arenone_ while @49d09c758dd6469 advised them to check the weather forecast first before indulging in their dangerous hobby.

Then there was @zackbellingham stating that he simply couldn’t understand the mindset of these fishing people. “You don’t care about your family, as long as you can fish. Same like the Mat Rempit who makes others difficult,” he added.

For a better perspective, authorities have reminded the public that fishing beneath the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, better known as the second Penang Bridge, is strictly prohibited.
In a statement, the bridge operator of Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) in a statement said the restriction is necessary to prevent accidents and safeguard lives.
“The underside of the bridge has been designated a restricted area. Fishing there poses serious risks and could lead to tragedies,” JKSB explained.
The company highlighted potential dangers, including the risk of falling, drowning due to strong currents, and other unforeseen mishaps.
It added that the restriction not only protects anglers but also preserves the safety of the bridge structure, motorists, and enforcement teams.
“For everyone’s wellbeing, please exercise caution and respect the law. No pastime is worth endangering lives in a restricted zone,” JKSB stressed. — Focus Malaysia
