Putra Makes Electoral Debut With Five Candidates In Malacca Polls
MALACCA POLLS | Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) will be making its electoral debut by contesting five seats in the upcoming state election, according to party president Ibrahim Ali.
The veteran politician at a press conference today also announced Putra's five candidates, led by its Malacca state liaison chief Mohd Aluwi Sari, fielded in Pengkalan Batu.
The other four candidates comprise Putra state and central leaders - Putra Youth exco Mohamad Harshidi Mohd Zin (Paya Rumput), Jasin Putra pro-tem chief Nazatul Asyraf Md Dom (Sungai Rambai), Putra Women exco Laila Norinda Maon (Gadek) and Kota Melaka Putra pro-tem chief Mohd Faizal Amzah (Duyong).
The former Malay-rights NGO Perkasa president, who marked his return to active politics through the formation of Putra in 2018, said the party had initially eyed to contest in 13 seats but this was later reduced to five.
"Putra is only two-and-a-half years old and this is an unexpected election, so we were unable to make preparations to contest in 13 seats.
"From the 13 seats, Putra's political bureau had chosen five seats," said the former three-term MP.
Ibrahim (above) had previously claimed Putra's decision to contest the state polls was made as an attempt to "save Malacca" from the conflict that stemmed from "political games" between parties in the state.
Perkasa's move will see its candidates facing multi-cornered fights against BN, PN and Harapan, including against PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin in Paya Rumput.
All three major coalitions have since announced their candidate line-ups ahead of nomination day on Nov 8. - Mkini
