Malacca Polls Outcome Will Guide Pas On Ge15 Tuan Ibrahim
The outcome of the Malacca state elections will serve as a guide for PAS in charting its future direction to face the 15th general elections, according to its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS will also strengthen its ties with Perikatan Nasional components.
“We will strengthen our party together with Perikatan Nasional (PN) because PAS is a PN component, and I am confident the outcome in Malacca will be a part of our future plans.
“I think there are many parties who wish to see the outcome in Malacca as the indicator,” said Tuan Ibrahim at a press conference after the last day of PAS 67th annual muktamar held in Kuala Terengganu.
He said this when asked for comments on the party’s future direction, being a PN component while maintaining ties with Umno through its Muafakat Nasional pact.
On clashes with Umno in Malacca, Tuan Ibrahim said the two parties’ ties will remain in the context of being members of the federal administration.
“In the context of the (federal) government, we go on as usual and there is no problem (with Umno), while we contest as individual parties.
“All government programmes have been halted during the Malacca campaign period,” he said.
“In the government, there are ministers and deputy ministers from different parties, so with the restrictions on numbers coming down to campaign this time, and no physical campaigns, there will be no problem with the administration,” he said.
The environment and water minister said even with the developments in Malacca, PAS has no intentions to abandon its Muafakat pact.
“No one wants to leave Muafakat unless the pact is dissolved, and to date, there is no intention to dissolve it.
“I think Muafakat’s big agenda, like what I said yesterday, is to unite the ummah. It is not a registered political party and we hope to return it to its origin, a platform open to accept NGO participation.
“Whatever happens, Umno will contest on a BN ticket and we hope meetings and discussions can still be held from time to time,” he said.
PAS candidates in the Malacca polls will be faced with multi-cornered fights against Umno and Harapan in seven out of the eight seats it has been allocated to contest under a PN ticket, with the exception of Klebang. - Mkini
