Psb Chief Announces Full Support For Anwar Abang Jo Ahead Of Pdp Merger
Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Wong Soon Koh has announced that the party is no longer in opposition and is supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s coalition government.
It will also be backing the Sarawak administration headed by state premier Abang Johari Openg.
This is in keeping with PSB's planned merger with the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a component party of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ruling state coalition, he told a joint PSB-PDP gathering in Sibu.
“Due to political changes in the state and country, PSB is forced to reassess our role in the political arena.
“We fully support the unity government led by Anwar and the state government led by Abang Johari," Wong (above) was quoted as saying by The Vibes.
Last July, PSB leaders signed a deal with PDP president Tiong King Sing in Kuala Lumpur to form a partnership at the state and national levels.
“PSB will unite with PDP," Wong said, adding that with 80,000 members in PSB and nearly 100,000 members in PDP, the new party would be one of the largest in the state.
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and PM Anwar IbrahimPSB does not have MPs in the Dewan Rakyat, although Wong has been the opposition leader in the Sarawak assembly where PSB has three representatives.
The three PSB assemblypersons are Wong (Bawang Assan), Johnical Rayong Ngipa (Engkilili) and Baru Bian (Ba’Kelalan).
The only other opposition assemblypersons left in the state legislature are DAP’s Chong Chien Jen and Violet Yong.
GPS has 76 assemblypersons, while See Chee How who was previously a PSB member is now an independent. - Mkini
