Prosperous Year Of The Snake For Dap As Guan Eng Reaps Rm1 67m In Angpow From Pas Bersatu
THE lunar new year may be four days away (Jan 29) but the proverbial laughing to the bank holds true for DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng as “donation galore” trickled in from PAS and Bersatu in his favour.
As this happened, pro-Madani government backers are mocking the opposition front for doing their bid to enrich the DAP’s coffers with their slanders, lies and calumnies.
“PAS donates to DAP . Bersatu donates to DAP ,” penned Suara Rakyat – SR in a Facebook post shared by DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming.
“In just 2 days, Guan Eng received a huge sum of RM1.675 mil from the defamation suit against Mastura and Muhyiddin.”
This came about as Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad has transferred RM830,034.75 in damages, costs and interest into the accounts of law firm SN Nair & Partners which represents three DAP leaders who successfully sued her for defamation.
However, the money will not be paid to DAP retired supremo Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, the party’s chairman Lim Guan Eng and vice-chairman/Seputeh MP Teresa Kok pending an appeal on the High Court decision.
According to the DAP leaders’ counsel Sankara Nair, judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon ordered the first-term PAS lawmaker to pay a total of RM750,000 in damages with a breakdown of RM300,000 to Kit Siang, Guan Eng (RM250,000) and Kok (RM200,000).
The judge further imposed a 5% annual interest if the deputy head of the Penang State PAS Muslim Council failed to pay her dues in addition to ordering her to pay costs of RM25,000 each to the three DAP leaders.
Interestingly, the dues for Guan Eng & Co should befittingly be attributed to PAS members who collectively raised RM925,451 from a so-called jihad donation drive to settle Siti Mastura’s legal damages.
Likewise, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has deposited an even bigger sum of RM1.35 mil in defamation damages to Guan Eng pending an appeal over the alleged revocation of Albukhary Foundation’s tax-exempt status.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin YassinLim’s counsel Guok Ngek Seong confirmed yesterday (Jan 24) to Malaysiakini that the Pagoh MP who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman made the deposit while awaiting the disposal of his appeal before the appellant court.
Recall that judicial commissioner Roz Mawar Rozain had on Nov 8 last year ordered Muhyiddin to pay RM1.35 mil in damages to Guan Eng who was the then finance minister during alleged tax revocation exercise.
She adjudged that the former premier made no attempt to verify the statement before issuing it, hence that the allegation was baseless. – Focus Malaysia
