Prm Aims At Revival In Penang By Collaborating With Ex Dap Man

It is collaborating with a group of environmental activists in the Social Progressive Front (SPF), led by former DAP assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu.
PRM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SPF today, following which the group will recruit local activists to contest in Penang for the coming general election (GE15) under PRM’s banner.
“When it comes to making political choices, Penangites have proven to be wise and mature,” Teh said at a press conference in Tanjung Bungah after the signing ceremony.
“We hope that they will vote for representatives (from SPF), who are free from business influence, to serve the people better.”
PRM secretary-general Koh Swee Yong said he hoped the collaboration with SPF would help revive the party in Penang.

Teh Yee Cheu.“Our party used to have a strong presence in Penang, where we dominated the Penang city council in the 1960s under the Socialist Front until local government elections were abolished in 1972.
“The party since then has been dormant in Penang. We hope that this MoU will help the party embark on a new chapter in Penang,” said Koh.
PRM’s previous attempt at a comeback was in the 2018 general election (GE14) when it contested in four parliamentary and 18 state seats, but lost all.
Teh served as a two-term assemblyman for Tanjung Bungah until his exit from DAP in 2018.
Throughout his legislative career, he had been known to be a staunch environmentalist who has opposed land reclamation projects and hillside development in the state.
Teh briefly joined Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and contested for the Sungai Pinang state seat but lost. He then left the party.
He subsequently co-founded SPF with former Tanjung Bungah PRM candidate Chua Cheong Wee and former Penang city councillor Zulfikar Abdul Aziz in 2019. - FMT
