Prioritise Local Sports Over Foreign Artist S Concert Bersatu Man Tells Minister
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has told Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to prioritise the country's sports industry over a foreign artist's concert.
According to him, Yeoh could use her power as a minister to rectify the situation, despite the venue booking for the concert being done four years ago.
"Bersatu Youth is disappointed that the Bukit Jalil National Stadium cannot be fully utilised for the first leg of the Asean Football Federation Cup (AFF) 2022 semi-final clash between Malaysia and Thailand this Saturday.
"A total of 87,545 football fans turned up to watch the semi-final of the AFF in 2018, but this year, 21,000 seats have to be 'sacrificed' to make way for the installation of a stage for the concert by famous Taiwanese artist Jay Chou," he said in a statement on Facebook today.
Wan Fayhsal (above) asked how a concert by a Taiwanese artist was more important than the dignity of the country's sports and the needs of Harimau Malaya supporters.
"At a time when we want to inculcate unity and patriotism through sports, especially football, we are presented with such excuses.
"This is the problem when the national stadium, which is supposed to be used for sports, is used for other events which can be held elsewhere, such as the Axiata Arena," he noted.
'Sacrifice the Taiwanese artist'
Wan Fayhsal urged Yeoh to use all her powers as a minister to fix the situation.
"Sacrifice the Taiwanese artist to give chance to the rakyat to witness Harimau Malaya in action in the country's No 1 sports.
"Do not betray the struggles of the country's heroes. Put Malaysia first!"
Yesterday, Yeoh explained that 21,000 seats at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium had to remain vacant for the football match, to accommodate the installation of an international-scale stage for the concert, which takes place on Jan 15.
She explained that the concert organisers had booked the venue as early as March 2019, and it was impossible to change the situation as it involved a large international-level set-up.
Earlier, the vacancy of 21,000 seats had received criticism from football fans in the country. - Mkini
