Pressuring Pm Over Addendum Violates Pahang Ruler S Decree State Pkr
Pahang PKR pushed back against efforts to pressure Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to enforce a royal addendum granting Najib Abdul Razak house arrest.
In a statement, chiefs from all 14 PKR divisions in the state cited Pahang ruler Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s decree on Feb 28 this year, calling for a halt to all debate on the addendum while the matter went through the legal process.
“We stress that any effort to discuss the matter again, including to pressure the prime minister to take action himself, is an effort that oversteps the Federal Constitution, disrespects the court process, is immature, political interference in the judiciary, and oversteps the Pahang sultan’s decree,” the Pahang PKR division chiefs said today.
Sultan Abdullah had, on his last day as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 29 last year, commuted Najib’s prison sentence in the SRC International corruption case to house arrest.
This was in addition to the Pardons Board’s decision, which reduced the former prime minister’s 12-year sentence and RM210 million fine to six years and RM50 million.
ADSNajib is suing the government to enforce the addendum.
Senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan reportedly said the Attorney-General’s Chambers did not dispute the addendum’s existence but were challenging how it was submitted as new evidence in Najib’s judicial review application at the High Court.
This prompted Umno to push for the government to place Najib under house arrest.
Anwar said on Friday that he was prepared to speak to Umno about the matter, but stressed that he would not supersede the judiciary. - Mkini
