Police Warn Of Scam Rumah Mesra Rakyat Campaigns On Social Media

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Criminal syndicates are exploiting the government's Rumah Mesra Rakyat 2025 affordable housing programme by creating fake promotional campaigns on social media to steal personal data, police have warned.
The government initiative, designed to help low-income families achieve homeownership, has become a target for digital fraudsters using platforms like TikTok to lure in victims.
Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) has identified unauthorised promotions that redirect users to suspicious, foreign-hosted websites. 
These fraudulent sites impersonate official government channels and manipulate hopeful applicants into providing sensitive personal information, including contact details and authentication codes.
“Preliminary analysis suggests that this is a phishing tactic by a syndicate aimed at hijacking victims’ Telegram accounts,” CCID director Commissioner Datuk Rosdi Mohd Isa said in a statement. 
“Such stolen accounts could be misused for various cybercrime activities, including impersonation, extortion, and online fraud.”
Rosdi advised Malaysians interested in the authentic Rumah Mesra Rakyat 2025 scheme to only access information through verified government channels and official websites.
The warning comes as online scams and fraud in Malaysia continue to cause severe financial losses. 
In the first half of 2025 alone, Malaysians lost approximately RM1.12 billion to various online scams.
The number of cases remains high, with over 12,000 recorded in just the first quarter of this year. 
Police also note that these scams are growing in complexity, now including AI-driven tactics such as deepfake videos designed to trick victims into fraudulent activities. - malaymail
