(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: The chairman of the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement is being investigated by police for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace after the association launched a campaign on a “missing prime minister”.
In a statement, the group said Ng Yap Hwa has been summoned to the Hulu Selangor police station to have his statement taken.
Ng is expected to present himself at the police station at 11.30am tomorrow.
Association member Wong Yan Ke said that Ng had launched a campaign called “Search for Missing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim” in Kuala Kubu Baharu today.
Ng, along with Teoh Lee Lan, younger sister of the late Beng Hock, was reportedly using the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign period as an opportunity to lobby their demands to meet the prime minister to discuss Teoh’s death in July 2009.
Wong said police considered the campaign to be illegal and demanded for the group’s posters to be removed.
He also said the association decided to come to Kuala Kubu Baharu as it provided them the best opportunity to communicate with voters and meet politicians.
In December, the association had submitted a protest letter to the Prime Minister’s Office stating they were unsatisfied that no person has been held responsible for Beng Hock’s death.
Beng Hock was the political aide to then Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah at the time. He was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, hours after he had gone for questioning at the 14th floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s Selangor headquarters.
A coroner’s inquest in 2011 delivered an open verdict. His family subsequently filed an appeal against the findings and three years later, the Court of Appeal set aside the open verdict and ruled that Beng Hock’s death was caused by multiple injuries as a result of unlawful acts by unknown persons. - FMT
